This is currently an experimental wiki to play with ideas that Dan Lyke thinks might be good for the Marin Cyclists web page. All content is speculative, subject to change, and may contain blatant errors.
Should we put this into production, I propose updating this page with something like:
The Marin Cyclists Wiki is a resource for members of Marin Cyclists to share information about bicycling. Anyone with privileges to edit this web site may edit any page, the site as a whole is the product of the community that maintains it. Information about bicycling, even when it's applied to the narrower group of people who ride in and around Marin, is fairly broad, but in order to maintain the value of the site we should agree that changes and additions to this site should:
- Be of general interest to the members of Marin Cyclists.
- Refrain from being blatant advertising for a product or service. This is a fine line, people can justifiably be proud of their own work, reasonably recommend the services provided by others, and they can do all that while participating honestly in the community. That's fine. However, we should get paid for advertising. Recommendations should be pertinent to the primary topic of the page that they're on, be personal, and we may want to talk with the recipients of praise or inbound links about possible sponsorship.
- Maintain an objective tone. Statements of opinion should be clearly attributed to those holding that opinion.
